no.188 131104 Thank you for pushing back my friend's wedding to the original date

Can't wait to have my own place and host a dinner party!
One of my childhood best friends is getting married next year. She's still one of my besties and I don't think I ever thought about missing her wedding day, and I'm sure she feels the same for mine. Her wedding is taking place in Korea, and I would hate to miss it. I still remember the day when I received a message from her that she got engaged! As soon as she got proposed and said yes, she sent me a photo of her hand with a ring against her fiance's hand. I was soooooo happy for her! She also said that she'd love it if I were there on her wedding day to celebrate it with her. But of course, the time and the money is always an issue. Her original date was in May, and since it was a far from when I first got the news, I thought I could figure something out to be a part of her big day. Then, she said that she wants to do it sooner, which was in January of 2014. After considering for a while, I really didn't think I can go. I was really disappointed, and also felt bad at heart since I sincerely wanted to support her. When I did share the news to her, she told me that the weddings pushed back to the original date! The reason was because it's going to be way too cold in January. Well said! I'm really glad the date's been changed now, and hopefully, I can save some money to fly to Korea to see my friend's wedding in May!

no.11 130511 Thank you for my childhood memories

I was watching some documentary about a family. The video was filmed on a resort in the Philippines, as the family was on a trip together. The father of the family was the focus of the film. The parents' of the father in the video got divorced when he was young and that had a negative  impact on him. When he was asked about his childhood, he said he only had bad memories, especially because he remembers his parents arguing almost every day. He had never been on a family trip together with his parents. Because of his sad childhood, he kept saying how he doesn't want to repeat what his parents did to him to his children. The video shows him trying to be a good dad to his three children, and portrays a family trip as one of the things he does to keep up the good relationship of his family.

The video gave me a chance to think about what my childhood was like, and what my parents were like. It made me realize how blessed I am that I have both of my parents with me. I also have a lot of memories of our family vacation. The photos that my dad took while we were on a trip, helps me recall my childhood. My dad loves traveling with the whole family. Whether it's just him, my mom, me and my sister, or including my grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, he just likes going to places whenever there's an opportunity. This is one of the things I like about my dad, and hope that my future husband will also be willing and enjoy traveling with me and our family. I'm blessed to have my dad and my mom as my parents, and I am thankful for my childhood memories that my parents provided for me.

no.7 130507 Thank you for my memory (part 1)

I hear people playing baseball outside at the park in front of my place. That 'ping' noise of an aluminum bat hitting a ball is a familiar sound for me, as it is something that I heard quite regularly when I was young. It's not because I joined some baseball club at school. There was a middle school in front of my house and the students often played baseball after classes were finished. Now that I think of it, that school must have had a really bad team that they had to practice so frequently. Well, I'm quite happy if they had a bad team because I enjoyed hearing that 'ping' sound and people talking aloud in the distance. I remember looking outside to see if I could get a glimpse of the game although I didn't know much about baseball.

I'm not sure what was so amazing about this sound that caught my attention, leading me to remember and feel certain way whenever I hear it. Perhaps it's because I have good hearing (I think) so I'm good at remembering different sounds. But I know that it isn't the sound itself that I find it so memorable. It's probably the emotions and the thoughts associated at the time I was first exposed to the sound that made me appreciate this sound. Something that could be just an annoying noise to someone can be a good memory to someone else. I am thankful for this memory I have of my childhood, and the ability to remember things in a personal way.
